peep® present the ‘SICA’ Graffiti Writer Interview Exclusive. Everything You Ever Wanted To Know about SICA

the Yeti Graffiti Artist photograph by peep magazine Newcastle

peep search The Yeti Graffiti Artist in his natural habitat of Newcastle’s Scotswood’s abandoned tunnel system. The search begins directly beneath the Scotswood Bridge and the famous Newcastle River Tyne.

There was no sign of The Yeti Graffiti Artist. I scanned old graffiti tags, graffiti dubs and graff pieces within the forgotten subsway system in the middle of a Scotswood motorway. peep magazine talk you through the entire episode and comment on graffiti writings both past and present. There was to be no guarantee he would be there, but I hung around and experienced the vibe. peep put the word out that we were very interested in chatting more with him about his graffiti artwork, creative mindset and his motivations.

peep spent a few hours down there, exploring the Graffiti work and it’s ominus surroundings. I sensed I was not alone and heard a woman screaming from the darkness and distant voices from mobile phone alerts going off from time to time.

I should mention at this point that Scotswood’s abandoned subways are an exceptionally ‘Sketchy’ place to be in the day time, never mind at midnight. Scotswood is not the kind of place you want to be wandering round on your own – but this is exactly what I was doing. I began to make a move into a better lit area, and it was at this point, he broke his cover and walked up behind me. . .

The Yeti explained he had been watching me walk around the whole time. He further explained that it was absolutely not safe to be wondering around the west end of Scotswood. Thankfully, I brought a small kick light for illumination. The Yeti took me further into the tunnels and away from dodgy on-lookers…

The Yeti Graffiti Artist took us further underground . . .

I found ‘The Yeti’ to be very articulate and engaging about his work, art influences and humble beginnings. He described that a Peregrine falcon book helped his passion for drawing, learning how to colour and shade areas of illustrations. He also mentioned the cult movie ‘The Warriors‘ as a major influence for picking a can of spray and painting on a wall in the heart of west end of Newcastle. peep have also managed to interview another infamous Newcastle Graffiti Writer by the name of SICA, if your interested please follow this link Who is Sica Graffiti
